A Trailer Court Kitchen

Hello all!

In honor of the fast approaching holiday (I love holidays that involve eating), I thought I’d share with you some pics of our kitchen and what our kitchen has produced.

First, however, I have to show you my new apron.  Because it totally matches the kitchen decor.  Yes!

The colors are a little distorted, but really the green in the apron matches the green of the walls.

As you may have gathered from my About page, I eat a vegan diet–which is both not a typical diet here in the U.S. and not a typical diet in a trailer park.

Case in point: one day I was coming home and I drove past a trailer that appeared to be smoking!  Upon closer inspection (and the clue of several stray trailer court cats gathered on the sidewalk), I learned the trailer was not on fire, but something sure was smokin’ on the grill.   So meat items that can be charred over fire is what I’ve seen my neighbors cooking mostly.

This is not to say that the way I eat is any better than the way my neighbors eat–but it is decidedly different.  AND I am positive that, at least from the last two owners, my kitchen has never seen the kind of food I’ve been making in it.

And one more thing before we get to the food porn pics: I thought that cooking in my trailer kitchen would be easier than cooking in my old apartment kitchen–because the trailer kitchen is so much bigger!  I’m sad to report that it is no easier.  I still don’t have enough counter space to be comfortable.  I make it work, but I’m beginning to wonder if I am ever going to have enough counter space to suit me.  I’m also running into problems with the sinks–they work fine, but they are not as deep as I am used to, so I get frustrated with how much more often I have do dishes (or whine to CF about dishes 🙂 ).  AND, to add insult to injury, we might need a new fridge because it’s apparently taken a lesson from Water Heater about making messes… (more on that in a later post).

HOWEVER, despite all of that, I am still making delicious culinary creations nearly every day.  So here’s what I’ve been up to lately!

This pizza experiment turned out great! The sauce is actually sweet potatoes and it's topped with bbq seitan and caramelized onions

This last meal was thrown together at the last minute…or rather the minute I came home and found out we didn’t have any more leftover pizza 😦

And that’s what I’ve been cooking lately! For Thanksgiving, I’m making a yummy vegan shepherd’s pie to bring to my Aunt’s house….and I’ll probably work on a chocolate mousse pie and a maple cake while I’m at it!
